About the Forum
The first Women Sustainability Forum was held in Viña del Mar, Chile, in the frame of the annual conference of the International Association for Impact Assessment. Over three sessions it offered practical recommendations on how to integrate a gender lens into industries traditionally dominated by men.
It brought together corporate staff, governments, consulting firms and civil society, alongside community leaders and women from resource regions. The Forum also gave rise to the Women in Mining and Resources Latin America network, later renamed the Exceptional Women in Sustainability network (eWisely network).
Programme
01
Gender and diversity in the workplace
Opportunities and challenges to increase the participation of women in mining, oil, transport and related industries, where a lack of inclusion had led to conflict and productivity losses.
02
A gender approach to social impact assessment
IBF pioneered this approach in the Latin American mining industry, showing how a gender strategy creates value for stakeholders and supports diversity, inclusion, risk management and respect for human rights.
03
Gender in community engagement and participation
Building capabilities to manage gender issues in community engagement in the resource sector, looking beyond consultation to women’s needs and the barriers to their participation.
