About the Forum
The second Forum, in Medellín, explored the links between the extractive industry (mining, oil and gas) and the sustainable human capital development of women. Without an approach to attract, retain and develop women, companies lose productivity and regional sustainability is put at risk.
Through an informative and consultative process, the Forum generated recommendations for social and corporate sustainability approaches that create value for industry, women in the sector, governments and civil society. Participants came from government, universities in Colombia and Australia, industry and community organisations.
Programme
01
Sustainable human capital development of women
IBF presented its study of the Colombian case, assessing the sustainability reports of seven resource companies across five pillars: education, leadership, innovation, employment and entrepreneurship. Only one company scored 12 out of a possible 15.
02
Attraction and retention of women
Case studies of companies operating in Colombia showed that more than half face significant challenges in attracting and retaining women.
03
Women and the social licence to operate
A consultation workshop with focus groups discussed how gender inclusion shapes the social licence to operate, with perspectives from government, business and civil society.
