An Exploration of Internal Control Practices and Health Service in Uganda

UgandaReport in English

Explores the relationship between internal control practices and the delivery of health services in Uganda.

Methods

Descriptive statisticsInterviews with key stakeholdersDocumentary review

Key findings

  • A relatively weak positive relationship between internal control practices and health service delivery.
  • Health service delivery depends on the internal control environment, the internal audit function and internal control activities, so strengthening these is expected to improve services.
  • Uptake of births in health facilities increased, and could rise further with better access to quality essential health care, helping achieve SDG 3 targets 3.1 and 3.8.
