Mujeres de Hierro en América Latina y el Caribe
An approach to integrating SDG 5, Gender Equality, into the mining, oil and gas industries of Latin America and the Caribbean, promoting international practices for the sustainable inclusion of women in the extractive sector and its value chain. The study identifies the barriers that limit women’s participation, including pay gaps, limited professional development, shift work that makes it hard to balance work and family, and a male dominated culture linked to discrimination and harassment.
Methods
Who took part
Led by Dr Isabel B. Franco and the eWisely research team within the WIMLATAM project, with undergraduate researchers from Latin America and the Caribbean in the eWisely network.

An Exploration of Internal Control Practices and Health Service in Uganda
Explores the relationship between internal control practices and the delivery of health services in Uganda.
Methods
Key findings
- A relatively weak positive relationship between internal control practices and health service delivery.
- Health service delivery depends on the internal control environment, the internal audit function and internal control activities, so strengthening these is expected to improve services.
- Uptake of births in health facilities increased, and could rise further with better access to quality essential health care, helping achieve SDG 3 targets 3.1 and 3.8.
